Basel Chamber Orchestra Foundation
Dorothea Herzog-Spinnler was a blessing for the Basel Chamber Orchestra and musical life in Basel. It was her who laid the foundation stone for the Basel Chamber Orchestra Foundation in 2005. The Hofmann Marthaler spouses shared a great passion for music in general and for the Basel Chamber Orchestra in particular and made a generous donation to the foundation in 2019.
Few people have shown such a naturally strong personality and compassion for music as Dorothea Herzog-Spinnler. She was always interested in how the musicians of the Basel Chamber Orchestra were doing, as well as the people in the office. But she was also clear when she didn't like something - a musical work, a conductor, a soloist or a concert review in the newspaper.
Her major donation in 2005 - among many others - was linked to the establishment of the Basel Chamber Orchestra Foundation. She thus laid the important foundation stone for the flourishing international activities of the Basel-based orchestra.
The married couple Hofmann Marthaler from Liestal were very good friends with Dorothea Herzog-Spinnler for many years. They shared the same passion: music played by the Basel Chamber Orchestra. It was important to them to create high-level values that would continue to give great pleasure to music lovers in the future.
They supported projects that exceeded the usual budget, such as the new recording of all Schubert symphonies with Heinz Holliger. They also made targeted efforts on behalf of musicians if they had a particularly tempting request or if it involved an instrument for the Basel Chamber Orchestra. It is partly thanks to the Hofmann Marthalers that the Basel Chamber Orchestra and the Baselbieter Konzerte have entered into a collaboration and organize an annual joint concert in the church in Liestal.
The couple's connection to the orchestra was always warm and tangible. They expressed their gratitude with a large donation to the existing foundation.
The Board of the foundation manages these heartfelt donations conscientiously and appreciates their gratitude and great recognition.
Thanks to the foundation, recording projects such as the recording of the complete symphonies of L. v. Beethoven and the complete symphonies of F. Schubert could be realised.
